The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta ensures patient care and safety by setting standards for services, personnel and equipment as part of its accreditation process. In our area of practice, Sleep Medicine Diagnostic (SMD) accreditation standards ensure patient safety and quality of care in the full range of sleep medicine facilities.
Is Aveiro accredited?
We highly value the accreditation process. It aligns with our corporate mission to provide integrative sleep solutions combined with exceptional patient care that improves health outcomes and quality of life for all patients in Canada. Our commitment to becoming accredited also reflects our values of trust, wellness, integrity, caring and excellence.
Earlier this year, we began the process of becoming accredited through the College of Physician and Surgeons of Alberta for our Sleep Medicine Diagnostic Practice of Home Obstructive Sleep Apnea (Level III). To date, we have attained provisional accreditation in Calgary, Edmonton and Lloydminster (subject to CPSA review and approval in early October 2019).
What is the process for becoming accredited?
Accreditation is a rigorous process that involves everyone in our organization. The College of Physician and Surgeons team reviews such items as policies and procedures, team member credentials, and training associated with Sleep Medicine Diagnostics.
Going through this process evaluates Aveiro against best practices so we know what we are doing well and where we need to make improvements. It ensures consistent use of our resources that enhance the quality and safety of the services offered to patients.
It’s important to note that even once we achieve accreditation, we are not finished. It’s an ongoing commitment to pursuing and achieving excellence in all that we do.
Why is accreditation important to Aveiro?
At its core, accreditation will help us become better in all aspects of our organization.
It ensures the standardization of patient care and safety and supports clinical process enhancement throughout Aveiro. This ensures we can provide the highest level of clinical care and service offerings to all our current and future patients across Alberta.
Accreditation is also a highly beneficial process for sleep medicine facilities across Alberta. By complying with best practices, it ensures a greater consistency in governance, employee engagement and patient safety. In Alberta, not all sleep medicine clinics are accredited yet.
Where can patients find out more about accreditation?
Patients can visit the CPSA website for more information and to see a list of accredited sleep medicine facilities.
